Junior Program

Our Junior Program has four junior groups; classification is based on their age and skill level. Their practicing times are mostly different.

In general, acceptance is based on first-come-first-serve basis. Players in the elite programs are determined by tryouts and coach selection.

1. Provincial Elites(PE) Group A and Group B

Membership in the Provincial Elites junior section of Badminton-Pierrefonds is open to all from 8 to 18 years of age, and who meet the skill requirements. Group A practices 4 times a week, while Group B practices 3 times a week.

Peewee – under 13
Benjamin – under 15
Cadet –  under 17
Juvenile – under 19

A. Provincial Elites(PE – A)

  • Monday  6:00 PM – 8:00PM   Regular training
  • Wednesday and Friday 6:00 PM – 8:00PM   Regular training
  • Saturday 1:00 PM – 3: 00 PM Regular training
  • They have to compete in at least 2 provincial tournaments.
  • They have to attend 80 evenings of practices.
  • Fees for 2017-2018 are  $650.00.
  • Limit:   12

B. Provincial Elites(PE – B)

  • Wednesday and Friday 6:00 PM – 8:00PM Regular training
  • Saturday 1:00 PM – 3: 00 PM Regular training
  • They have to compete in at least 2 provincial tournaments.
  • They have to attend 80 sessions of practices.
  • Fees for 2017-2018 are $550.00.
  • Limit: 12

 

2. Pee-wee Elites(PW)

Membership in the Peewee Elites is open to all under 12 and who meet the skill requirements set by the coaching staff.

  • Wednesday and Friday 6:00 PM – 8:00PM   Regular training
  • Saturday 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM    Regular training
  • They have to compete in at least 2 provincial tournaments.
  • They have to attend 80 sessions of practices.
  • Fees for Peewees are $350.00.
  • Limit:  20

 

3. High School Elites (HS)

Membership in the High School Junior section of Badminton-Pierrefonds is open to all from 12 to 18 years of age, and who meet the skill requirements set by the coaching staff.

  • Wednesday  6:00 PM – 8:00 PM   Regular training
  • Saturday   1:00 PM – 3:00 PM  Regular training
  • Fees for High School Juniors are  $250.00.
  • Limit: 20

4.  Recreational Juniors(RJ)

  • Friday  6:00 PM – 8:00 PM   Regular training
  • Saturday 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM   Regular training.
  • Fees for Recreational Juniors are $150.00.
  • Limit:  30

Club Head coach and Provincial Elite Head Coach:  Allen Zhai

Allen Zhai is a professional badminton coach from Guang Xi Province, Southern China. He was rated as a First Class Athlete in China. He participated in various world – class tournaments;  Notably the China open 1991, where he made it to the 2nd round of the tournament to face Rashid Sidek from Malaysia, the world-ranking #1 seed at that time. In China he competed against the former Chinese #1 player, Zhao Jianhua, being defeated only by a single point in the match. He reached the finals in various championships in both China and Quebec, winning prestigious trophies.

****************************************************************************   In 2015-2016 Allen coached Andrew Choi who won the gold medal in doubles and Eliana-Ruobing Zhang  who won the bronze medal in singles at the Canadian championship in Toronto on March 11- 13.

In addition Andrew, Eliana, Hou Han Zhang, Francis Plante and Brandon Ma won many compétitions or were finalists at the various provincial tournaments.

Eliana was named athlete of the month twice in 2016 and she won twice the triple crown at provincial tournaments.

Allen was named coach by excellence at the provincial Black Knight / Ashaway tournament,  which took place on Feb 12- 14, 2016  at Pierrefonds.

In 2014-2015 Allen became the head coach of the Badminton club of Pierrefonds and personally coached Eliana-Ruobing Zhang, Andrew Choi and Eddie Yang all winners and finalists at the Provincial championship.

Eliana won 3 gold medals at the provincial championships in Sherbrooke city. She won gold medals in singles competition Benjamin, mixed competition Benjamin and doubles competition cadet. In January, 2015 she won a triple crown at a provincial tournament and was athlete of the month for the province of Quebec.

Eddie Yang won the gold medal in doubles competition at the Benjamin level.

Andrew Choi won 2 bronze medals in simgles and doubles cadet level. He won a triple crown at a provincial tournament in December 2014, at the provincial level and was named athlete of the month for the province of Quebec.

In 2013 -2014 Allen Zhai personally coached the gold medallist in Juvenile Provincial Boys’ Singles at Vaudreuil- Dorion in 2011 and the gold medallist in Juvenile Provincial Boys Singles at Valleyfield in 2012.
